Red-crowned parrot

Today when I was walking to Trader Joe’s, I saw a beautiful tree with pink flowers behind a smaller tree with beautiful yellow flowers. I’m not really familiar with flower names but it seems like the tree is called “Pink trumpet tree”. It was so beautiful that I just stood there for a while to observe the flowers.

Los Angeles actually has a lot of beautiful trees all year round. I wish I knew flower names more!

Here in South Pasadena, almost everyday I see beautiful green parrots. Especially recently I hear a lot of chirpy sounds, I guess it’s breeding season now. On my way home, suddenly there were a lot of parrots on the tree in front of me. At first, I didn’t realize it but there were so many in one tree. They were busy eating the tree nuts. I guess they were having a lunch.

According to Pasadena website, they are called Red-crowned parrots and many were released during a 1959 fire which destroyed Simpson’s Gardenland and Bird Firm in Pasadena. Some of the parrots were probably pets that escaped or set free.

They don’t seem to be afraid of humans. Even when I walked under the tree, none of them flew away but kept eating the tree nuts.

This picture was taken last November. They seem to be around here all the time.

Not only these parrots but I also see hummingbirds and squirrels everyday. Is it because of the warm weather that so many animals are living around here?
